What You Will Learn:
The food service industry is one of the nation’s biggest employers; opportunities are numerous and diverse. Students perform basic cooking and food preparation tasks utilizing knife skills, correct terminology and various cooking methods, how to follow recipes, weigh and measure food accurately, the major techniques and principles used in cooking, baking, and other aspects of food preparation like breakfast/short order, sandwiches and salads, vegetables and starches, or the preparation of soups and sauces.

- in-school technical training required for Level 1 Apprenticeship
- 600 work-based training hours towards Red Seal Certification
- High School
- 16 grade 12 credits towards graduation (4 courses)
What You Can Expect:
Students attend Salmon Arm Secondary full-time where they prepare meals for staff, students, and the public in the campus cafeteria and the Classroom Restaurant. This SkilledTradesBC certified program provides learners with a solid foundation of culinary skills.

Pre-requisites:
- C in English 10
- C+ in Apprenticeship/Workplace Math 10 (grade 12 preferred)
- Proof (e.g. resume) of at least 3 months of work experience related to the food service industry, and a letter of reference from your employer
- Food Safe Level 1
Program Length:
28 weeks
Program Dates & Deadlines:
Apply in February of the previous year for Winter intake (Feb-June).
