Experiential Learning

Font Size: A+ A- Reset

Experiential learning is an important aspect of Career Education, especially in high school as students begin to consider options after graduation. SD83 is proud to offer a number of field trips, spotlights, virtual seminars, post-secondary and career fairs, in-school events, and guest speakers to enhance career exploration of our students.

For some, that field trip to a work site or post-secondary institution ignites a spark towards certain careers. For a number of our students, their career journey began by either attending a field trip or listening to a guest speaker talk about their profession.

We encourage students and parents to follow the SD83 Career website, social media platforms, and school newsletters to stay informed of upcoming opportunities. At any time, students can also visit their high school career department to learn more about upcoming events.

Field Trips:

Spotlights, Info sessions and Virtual seminars:

All off-school site field trips last a half to full school day. Students must have signed parent permission forms handed into the Career Center before the day of the field trip. All attending students must make-up class work missed for not attending school. Students who sign up for field trips are expected to show up for the event and not cancel last moment unless there is a family emergency.

These events occur when guest speaker(s) present in the school library, a classroom, suitable location, or online. Presentations usually last between 60-90 minutes; students have the chance to learn, ask questions, and interact with the presenter. All attending students must make-up work missed for not attending class. Students who sign up are expected to show up for the event and not cancel last moment unless there is a family emergency.
