What is the Carpentry Foundations Pre-Apprenticeship Program?

What You Will Learn:

This program prepares students to begin working as carpenters and to enter apprenticeship with a strong foundation in trade skills and workplace safety. Students learn to safely and effectively use hand tools, portable power tools, and a range of specialty carpentry equipment. Through hands-on practice, they work with key construction materials such as lumber, panel products, concrete, roofing materials, fasteners, and hardware. The program emphasizes practical, job‑ready skills as students complete a variety of projects—including stairs, concrete forms, and framing for floors, walls, and roofs—developing the technical competence and confidence needed for success in the construction industry.

What You Will Earn:

    • Skilled Trades BC
      • in-school technical training required for Level 1 Apprenticeship
      • work-based training hours towards Red Seal Certification
    • High School
      • grade 12 credits towards graduation


What You Can Expect:

Full-time, Monday-Friday (7:00AM-4:00PM), Mix of classroom theory and hands on training structured to mimic real-world employment.

  • Enrolling in Work Experience at a related job site.
  • Participating in Career related activities like going on a tour (virtual or in person) or attending an info session.
  • Selecting shop and math based elective courses.
  • Making and monitoring an appropriate personal email. (ex: do not use phat_cat69@gmail.com)
  • Ensuring your personal information is up to date (i.e email, resume, SIN, etc).

Pre-Requisites:

    • at least 50% in Language Arts 11 and 12 by start of program
    • at least 50% in Math 11 (Pre-Calc, Foundations, or Workplace)
      • or 63% on the Trades Entrance Assessment
    • be on track to graduate
