What You Will Learn:

The PVSS "Cutting Edge of Excellence" Hairstyling program provides the practical skills involved in cutting, styling, curling, and waving hair, business aspects, client relations, safety, First Peoples worldviews, and the core techniques of professional practice, and contemporary beauty standards in a salon setting in preparation for a cosmetology career.

What You Will Earn:

    • Skilled Trades BC
      • Hairstylist Apprentice Level 1 Certification
    • High School
      • grade 12 credits toward graduation

What You Can Expect:

Attend PVSS for a full-year program (February - January) spanning the second semester of Grade 11 and first semester of Grade 12.

  • Connecting with your Career Coordinator at school.
  • Watching for deadlines - they are critical!
  • Maintaining good attendance and keeping up with school work - career programs require interviews!
  • Considering a trade sampler program.
  • Enrolling in Work Experience at a related job site.
  • Participating in Career related activities like going on a tour (virtual or in person) or attending an info session.
  • Selecting shop and math based elective courses.
  • Making and monitoring an appropriate personal email. (ex: do not use phat_cat69@gmail.com)
  • Ensuring your personal information is up to date (i.e email, resume, SIN, etc).

Pre-Requisites:

  • Be on track to graduate with required grade 10/11/12 courses (English, Math, Science)

What You Will EARN:

  • 10 grade 12 high school courses (40 credits)
  • ITA: Hairstylist Level 1 certification

Program Length:

  • 2 semesters/full-year

Dates & Deadlines:

  • January - February (Semester 2 + Semester 1)
  • Apply in March of the previous year.
