What You Will Learn:
A millwright, also known as an industrial mechanic, installs, maintains, repairs, and overhauls heavy machinery and mechanical equipment such as conveyor systems, performing routine tasks like adjusting valves and troubleshooting breakdowns. Unlike machinists—who create precise parts from raw materials using machine tools—millwrights work across diverse environments such as mines, logging operations, ski hills, and manufacturing plants, often blending skills from mechanics, electricians, and machinists to keep large industrial systems running safely and efficiently. Students in millwright training learn safe work practices along with essential skills in math, welding, power transmission (gears, belts, chains), system installation and maintenance, bearing science, fluid power, rigging and hoisting, and pumps and compressors.
