What You Will Learn:

The Leadership in Action program helps students become confident, effective leaders through interactive learning in leadership fundamentals, conflict resolution, communication, and teamwork. Students apply the skills by leading activities and mentoring children in a day camp setting, where they strengthen their abilities through real-world practice, feedback, and personal reflection.

What You Need to Know:

  • The Sampler Program is open to students in grades 10-12.
  • You must apply in the Spring (March) to be eligible for the Fall intake.
  • The program takes approximately 4 months to complete.
  • You will earn either 2 or 4 high-school grade 12 credits towards graduation, depending on which option is available to you. Contact your Career Coordinator for more information.
  • Students attend OC College Vernon Campus using one of two options:
    • OPTION 1 (2 credits): 2-hour in-person orientation, 12 hours of online coursework, and 35 in-person volunteer hours at Camp OC (1 week at Camp OC)
    • OPTION 2 (4 credits): 2-hour in-person orientation, 12 hours of online coursework, and 70 in-person volunteer hours at Camp OC (2 weeks at Camp OC).

Help Yourself Succeed By...

  • Connecting with your Career Coordinator at school.
  • Watching for deadlines - they are critical!
  • Maintaining good attendance and keeping up with school work - career programs require interviews!
  • Participating in Career related activities like going on a tour (virtual or in person) or attending an info session.
  • Enrolling in Work Experience at a related job site.
  • Making and monitoring an appropriate personal email. (ex: do not use phat_cat69@gmail.com)
  • Ensuring your personal information is up to date (i.e email, resume, SIN, etc).
