Career Summary:

Auto Service technicians inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems in cars and light trucks; performs routine maintenance, oil changes and tune-ups; fixes major issues, and uses computerized diagnostic equipment to identify and solve problems.

Program Overview:

Using computerized equipment, students learn to diagnose various issues and fix problems that arise. Students will participate in a work placement that introduces them to real workplace environments, as well as perspectives to industry standards and expectations. Students will receive hands-on training in modern facilities, focusing on practical diagnostic and repair skills for engines, brakes, electronics, and even EVs, preparing students for industry certification (AST 1) through foundational courses or a two-year diploma

What You Will Learn:

The necessary skills to seek employment in the Auto Service industry as an apprentice technician. The courses introduce students to many aspects of servicing and repair in the automotive repair trade with a focus on developing practical skills.
Key skills learned: use of computerized tools, safety, and skills for an apprenticeship, with pathways for both beginners and those seeking advanced roles; a blend of technical skills and essential business/communication knowledge including real-world work experience.

What You Will Earn:

    • Skilled Trades BC
      • 450 hours towards Automotive Service Technician Year 1 (AST 1) certification and the opportunity to write the AST 1 Certificate of Qualification exam.
    • High School
      • 8.25 Grade 12 Courses; 32 Credits.

Pre-Requisites:

    • English 10 minimum 50%;
    • Math 11 minimum 50% (either of Pre-Calculus 11, Foundations of Math 11, Workplace Math 11);
    • Be on track to graduate.
