SD83 Students Experience UBC
Over one-hundred SD83 students made the trip to Kelowna to experience one of Canada’s best universities. SD83 students have participated in this event, minus the pandemic, for over 10 years. Participating Grade 10 and 11 students took in the activities at the University of British Columbia-Okanagan. The students came from JL Jackson, AL Fortune and Pleasant Valley Secondaries. The rest of the students came from as far south as Osoyoos to as far north as Revelstoke.
Students had a choice of 14 stations to check out in a “passport” activity. Stations included looking at and taking pictures with real and plastic fossils of prehistoric animals like a sabre-tooth cat, checking out marine life, fitness testing, computer coding, working a laser cutter and participating in a simulator nursing station, among other activities. The students also heard a UBC student panel talking about their experiences, and had the opportunity to eat as much as they wished at the dining hall for lunch.
Once again, UBC recently received a ranking of being one of world’s top 50 universities. Only the University of Toronto and McGill in Montreal crack into the top 50 for Canadian universities.
