SD83 Students Examine Health Care Careers Next Month

Posted on 2023-11-16 08:00:00 +0000 UTC

School District 83, along with the British Columbia Institute of Technology, will be hosting a province-wide virtual seminar next month exploring little known but high-in-demand health care jobs.

The event will take place on Thursday, December 7th at 10:45AM. Eight different programs will be featured in the 75-minute presentation. Students will learn from industry experts and instructors on their career journeys, the courses and programs taken in high school and post-secondary to get to their chosen career, and describe a day in the life in their field. The featured careers include but are not limited to: Biomedical Engineering, Environmental Public Health, Radiography, MRI Technician, Nuclear Medicine, Radiation Therapy and Sonography.

The December 7th session is part of a health-focused week within SD83 Careers. On December 6th, district students have an opportunity to travel to Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops to specifically learn about nursing and respiratory therapy in a full-day field trip. More information on that trip will be shared soon.

For the SD83/BCIT session, students can choose to attend virtually themselves by registering and receiving the link at their neighbour school’s career office or there may be a teacher within the school that may wish to log onto the session for the whole class to view. If you wish more details about the event or wish to share other ideas for seminars or field trips, please contact George Richard at 778-824-1188 via text or phone or email grichard@sd.bc.ca.
