Mounties want to get their person from SD83

A select few SD83 students will have an opportunity to receive police training next year.

The Jean Minguy Memorial RCMP Youth Academy will be held at the Vernon Army Camp from May 11th-17th. The Vernon school district and the RCMP have collaborated to host this program for 16-18 year old students (as of May 1st, 2024) interested in police services or law enforcement as a career. 30 students from ten school districts can be part of the camp which simulates a police academy environment. Students will be instructed in law, its procedures and the role of police officers in the community.

All potential participants must complete a fitness test in April. Students are strongly urged to train for this test to give themselves the best opportunity to succeed in the application process.

Interested students and families do have to pay 350 dollars for the week-long course which includes meals, lodging and all supplies. All applicants can receive an application package through their career coordinator at their neighbourhood school or contact SD83 Career Education Coordinator George Richard at grichard@sd83.bc.ca. The deadline for applications is January 31st, 2024.
