Date Change for Shuswap Middle/Okanagan College Event
They will just have to wait a little longer.
Every Grade Eight student from Shuswap Middle School will now descend upon Okanagan College in Salmon Arm on May 17th. Originally, the event was to happen on May 3rd but a scheduling conflict meant the event date had to be changed.
Over two-hundred SMS students will spend the morning at the Shuswap campus learning more about what the campus has to offer. This is the first year of a pilot program to introduce Grade 8 students in the region to their local college. It is hoped the event will be expanded next year to include other Grade 8 students from some of the K-8 schools surrounding Salmon Arm.
SMS Principal Scott Anderson is excited about the upcoming event. “Visiting the OC Salmon Arm Campus is a wonderful chance for our students to see the post secondary learning opportunities that are available right here in their home town!” said Anderson. Students will rotate through different stations while at the College. These stations include a tour of the facility, a talk with a college advisor on various programs, view scientific and other interactive demonstrations and participate in some games as well.
