Agriculture Careers: Can You Dig It?
SD83 Careers and BC Agriculture in the Classroom are teaming up to offer two events to students this fall so students can learn more about careers in the Agriculture Industry.
The first event takes place on Thursday, September 28th between 12:45-2PM. BCAITC and SD83 will be hosting a virtual career panel where four industry experts will be able to talk about their agricultural careers involving the environment, research, technology and animal sciences. The career panel will be made available to 10 other districts stretching from Osoyoos to Prince George so they can partake in the learning. To get a link to the event, students need to see the career coordinator at their school for access and to get a parental permission form filled out.
The second event will take place on Friday, October 13th. Interested students from all district high schools will go on a full-day tour. The trip will start off at Salmon Arm’s Zest Food Hub to learn about its commercial kitchen and how to get local food to market. From there, the group ventures to Farmer’s John’s Market to tour a working dairy farm and agribusiness. The day will end off at Shuswap Organics to examine a certified organic farm. Similar to the first event, students need to see their school’s career coordinator to get a parent permission form to be able to participate in the event. Lunch will be provided for this event and students are reminded to dress for the event as they’ll be outside. Closed shoes are expected.
If you wish to learn more about the event, please talk with the career coordinator at your school or contact George Richard via phone or text at 778-824-1188 or email grichard@sd83.bc.ca.
