Grade 8’s Heading to Okanagan College this Month

Every Grade Eight student from Shuswap Middle School and King’s Christian will descend upon Okanagan College in Salmon Arm on Tuesday, April 30th.

Over 240 students will spend the morning at the Shuswap campus learning more about what the campus has to offer.

Students will rotate through different stations while at the College. These stations include a tour of the facility, a talk with a college advisor on various programs, view scientific and other interactive demonstrations and participate in some games as well.

This will be the final year of this pilot format as it will be expanded in 2025. SD83 Careers has won a grant courtesy of the Provincial government and will be able to invite every Grade 8 in SD83, over five-hundred students, to come to the two-day event next year. Next year’s event will also involve Interior Health as many of the stations will be highlighting careers in the Health Care Sector.

Besides the Grade 8 event, the college will be busy during that week. On Friday, May 3rd, secondary students throughout the District will be invited to “Experience OC” by attending lectures given by College professors in their chosen fields. More information will be coming out to Grade 10-12 students interested in this opportunity very soon. If you wish more information, you are welcome to talk with the Career Coordinator at their school or they can contact George Richard at 778-824-1188 or email grichard@sd83.bc.ca.
